USS Kearsarge by Randall Wilson. (PC) USS Kearsarge CV33, USS Princeton and USS Rochester CA124 in Korea 1952 with bearcats over the top. |
Tribute to Clyde East by Ivan Berryman. (PC) Clyde East joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and by 1942 was flying P-51 Mustangs with No.414 Sqn RCAF in England. He then transferred to the US Air Force, joining the 15th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron. He is shown here in P.51D Mustang 44-14306 5M-K, 'Lil Margaret', April 1945. In more than 200 missions he scored 13 victories, later serving in Korea flying RF-80 Shooting Stars and retiring in 1965. He died in 2014. |
The Raid on Pearl Harbor, 7th December 1941 by Ivan Berryman. (PC) The view across Battleship Row, viewed from above Ford Island as the USS Nevada gallantly makes her break for the open sea, coming under heavy attack from Japanese A6M2s from the carrier Hiryu. The Nevada was eventually too badly damaged to continue and was beached to avoid blocking the harbour entrance. In the immediate foreground, the lightly damaged USS Tennessee is trapped inboard of USS West Virginia which has sunk at her moorings, leaking burning oil and hampering the daring operations to pluck trapped crew members from her decks, while just visible to the right is the stern of the USS Maryland and the capsized Oklahoma. |
The Battle of Gettysberg - July 1st to 3rd, 1863 by Henry Alexander Ogden (PC) The Battle of Gettysburg was a pivotal engagement in the Civil War marking the turning point of the conflict. It involved intense fighting between Union and Confederate forces, with key actions at locations like Little Round Top and Picketts Charge. The Union victory, led by General George Meade, resulted in significant Confederate losses and effectively halted General Robert E. Lees mvasion of the North boosting Northern morale and solidifying Union control of the region. |

Operation Cobra, Normandy, 28th July 1944 by David Pentland (PC) After almost two months Sherman tanks and armoured infantry of the US 2nd Armoured Division eventually broke through the German defences south-west of St Lo. Pushing aside the shattered remnants of Panzer Lehr Division, their rapid advance forced a general German retreat. This would ultimately spell disaster for the German armies in France. |

McClellan at Antietam - September 17th, 1862 by Henry Alexander Ogden (PC) George B. McClellan was the Union commander at the Battle of Antietam fought on September 17, 1862. Despite having a larger force, McClellan hesitated to aggressively pursue Confederate General Robert E. Lee resulting 1n a bloody and tactical stalemate. The battle was the bloodiest single day in American history, with significant casualties on both sides and although it ended inconclusively, it provided President Lincoln the political opportunity to issue the Emancipation Proclamation, shifting the war’s focus to the issue of slavery. |

They often worked independently or in small groups, using traditional methods and techniques passed down through generations. Native American trappers were key intermediaries in trade networks, exchanging furs with European settlers and traders for goods such as firearms, metal tools, and textiles. |

The Battle of the Alamo by Edward Percy Moran (PC) The Battle of the Alamo, fought in 1836 during the Texas Revolution, was a 13 -day siege where a small group of Texas defenders held out against a much larger Mexican army. Despite their eventual defeat, the battle became a symbol of bravery and resistance. |
Tribute to P-38 Lightning Ace Captain Joe Forster by Ivan Berryman. (PC) Born in 1919, Joe Forster enlisted in the Army in 1940 and was commissioned as a pilot in 1943, flying the P-38 Lightning with 432nd Fighter Squadron. On 3rd April 1944, he was credited with his first 3 confirmed victories, eventually finishing the war with 9 confirmed victories, three probables and one damaged. He is shown here in his P-38 Lightning Florida Cracker of the 432nd Fighter Sqn. |
